This project was a logistics and technical nightmare.  The local labour had very little knowledge on abrasive blasting and painting and all had to be trained and closely supervised at all times.  All material and equipment had to be transported from Australia to site in containers as there were no local supplies or repair services on the island. The project consisted of treatment all external surfaces of 10 petroleum storage tanks, and the internal treatment of roof and floor of 3 tanks.  The external surfaces were all treated with the following specification, water blasting, spot and brush blasting, spot priming, full intermediate coat followed by one top coat.  The internal surfaces were water blast, followed by full coating removal, stripe coat and then application of 2 finish coats.  All coatings used on this project were supplied by Akzo Nobel. The project was completed on time, to specification and within budget.
